LQuin belongs to a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. It targets bacteria present in the body. LQuin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections affecting the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate. Additionally, it is employed to treat bacterial infections linked to bronchitis or pneumonia, as well as to manage cases of anthrax exposure. LQuin may also be prescribed for other uses not included in this medication guide.

LQuin should not be used if you have a history of myasthenia gravis or if you are allergic to levofloxacin or similar antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin, gemifloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, and others.

Before starting LQuin, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver issues, muscle weakness or breathing difficulties, joint disorders, a history of seizures, diabetes, low potassium levels in your blood, a personal or family history of Long QT syndrome, or if you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to an antibiotic.

Avoid taking antacids, vitamin or mineral supplements, sucralfate, or didanosine powder or chewable tablets within 2 hours before or after you take LQuin. Levofloxacin may lead to swelling or rupturing of a tendon (the tissue that connects bones to muscles), particularly affecting the Achilles' tendon located in the heel. The likelihood of these effects may increase if you are over 60 years old, if you are taking steroid medication, or if you have undergone a kidney, heart, or lung transplant. Discontinue LQuin and contact your doctor immediately if you experience sudden pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or mobility issues in any of your joints. Rest the affected joint until you receive medical assistance or instructions.

The most commonly reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and constipation. Less frequent side effects may involve sleep disturbances, dizziness, rashes, gas, upper stomach pain, and itching. Caution is advised when using LQuin in patients with central nervous system conditions. Allergic reactions such as hives and anaphylaxis are also possible.
